WHY YOU?

One thing that goes through employers' minds when they review resumes and job applications is why they should hire you in particular, of all the applicants who have indicated interest.

SPECIFICATION

Employers want skilled workers who are specialists in their field. If you have numerous experiences in various industries, narrow down your CV to focus on your skills/experiences in a particular field or role.

CERTIFICATION

This is why it is important to distinguish yourself in your field, and one of the ways to do this is by getting certified.

NETWORKING

Another factor that helps is getting referred to a job role by someone within that organization, or with networks in the organization.

TEMPORARY ALTERNATIVES

But what happens if you don't have a reference or can't get certified at the moment? The alternative is going through an employment agency, or doing a co-op program that will enable you get an internship (often unpaid) in your field.

DON'T GIVE UP

The most important thing is to not give up. Living in a new country can be daunting and sometimes it can be tough to fully settle, but you will. Give yourself time.
